Plans have been unveiled to crackdown on traffic offences near two railway stations.
Kent County Council (KCC) has launched a consultation on two new sites to enforce “moving traffic offences” in Dartford and Gravesend.
They include driving through no-entry signs, banned turns, entering yellow box junctions when the exit is not clear, and driving vehicles on routes marked for buses and taxis only.
Previously the rules were only enforceable by police.
But in July last year, the government handed down new powers to local authorities to enforce such “moving traffic contraventions”.
KCC already has plans in place to install ANPR cameras in Maidstone to catch drivers flouting the rules.
The local authority is now consulting on two new sites, which could be enforced in the future.
This includes a “no entry except local buses and cycles” sign to be put in Clive Road, Gravesend, by the station, and plans for a “no entry except local buses” sign to be put up on the Fastrack route between Greenhithe railway station and Ingress Park Avenue, Dartford.
KCC’s cabinet member for highways and transport, Neil Baker, said: “Moving traffic enforcement can only be applied where action is needed to improve road safety, make public transport more attractive and tackle congestion.
“Last year we consulted on the first batch of locations, which we are now working towards implementing, using specialist technology to ensure the travelling public comply with lines and signs.
“Now is your chance to have your say on the areas where we are suggesting action is required.”
The consultations started on October 24 and will close on December 4. You can register to get involved here.
