When charity worker Joan Francis noticed tourists posing for pictures outside her home she knew she had to take action.
The 53-year-old is used to visitors coming to her house in Spielman Road in Dartford so she decided to give them what they wanted by placing a plaque on her wall that reads: 'Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones spent his teen years in this house'.
The legendary guitarist spent his childhood in the Temple Hill street and went to Wentworth Primary School where Mick Jagger was in the same class.
The pair later went on to form a legendary musical bond after striking up a friendship at Dartford station where a blue plaque was installed to mark the roots of the world-famous group.
Joan, who is the KM Group’s community correspondent for Temple Hill, said she was made aware of her home’s fame when she picked up the keys.
She said: “When I moved in 29 years ago the estate agent told me a famous person lived here. It was funny because at first I thought he meant Cliff Richard.
"My neighbour Margaret remembers him from when he was a child. She would often get a knock on the door from Rolling Stone magazine asking for stories about Keith but she never did.
"Her husband Wally even had jamming sessions with Keith."
Last year, Joan decided to put a badge up declaring the home’s famous resident to provide a bonus for people visiting from all corners of the globe.
Mrs Francis said American and Japanese fans have travelled to Temple Hill and last year a French man drove in a campervan to see the home.
She added: “I decided to put a plaque up to stop people coming in the garden. There are people living here still and often you see people running from the door when a picture is taken."
"The avid Stones fans know this is the place where he lived. In his book Life the address is shown on letters he used to write to his aunt Patty.
"At one time I wouldn’t have anything to do with this as me and my family are private people but I do think we should embrace this success story.
"I never knew him so I can’t comment on what he is like but I’m proud that Keith and Mick have come from Dartford and are doing so well."
Incredibly, after years of no recognition, two signs are now at Joan’s home after a record company installed a blue plaque, temporarily, to promote Keith’s new solo album Crosseyed Heart, due for release next month.
The plaque will spend a week at four locations in Dartford linked with Mr Richards, starting in Spielman Road. The flat above the Darling Buds of May florists in Chastilian Road is also expected to feature after Keith lived there for a time.
Joan, who works at the Healthy Living Centre in Temple Hill, added: "The plaque is a great marketing ploy but the fact these guys who are still rocking out in their 70s is fantastic for Dartford and for Temple Hill.
"I became the community correspondent because we do get a bad reputation even though we have a number of good charities that do good work and the people are lovely."
