A plucky puss is certainly making the most of his nine lives after he wandered past a firing range into a Met Police training centre in Gravesend.

Bullet, an adult tabby, stunned security guards when he was first spotted at the range in Mark Lane on January 8.

He remained at the centre for a few days while staff tried to trace his owner but have so far been unsuccessful.

Leanne Ferguson, security team leader, said: "We’re so far out here I just have no idea where he came from - he just turned up one day and settled himself in.

"It was obvious he was tame, he was so friendly and affectionate, jumping onto people’s laps to have a sleep.

"But although we all loved him there was no way he could stay here - he was at risk. It just isn’t a safe environment for a cat with firing ranges nearby and similar."

Now the RSPCA is appealing for information to help him return to his rightful owner.

RSPCA inspector Vikki Dawe said: "This cat has obviously got a taste for danger wandering into such a dangerous area like this. It was quite a close shave. We have named him ‘Bullet’ as a result.

"He is a lovely cat and clearly well cared for and it seems likely he has an owner looking for him out there, so we urge anyone who might know where he might come from to get in touch on 0300 123 8018."

The RSPCA say the situation highlights the importance of microchipping cats in case they are lost, stolen or involved in an accident.
