Inquiries are taking place after a vehicle overturned at a roundabout near the A2.
Officers were spotted near Watling Street, Gravesend, earlier this week after failing to stop the "speeding" car.
Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Asim Bashir, said: "At approximately 9pm on Monday, February 26, officers from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command, who were in an marked police vehicle, attempted to stop a vehicle travelling at speed on the A2 southbound in Bexley.
"The car failed to stop for police before entering Kent, outside the Metropolitan Police District, where it overturned at a roundabout.
"One person was taken to hospital for treatment."
While his injuries were first reported as non-serious it has now been revealed he suffered six fractured vertebrae, a fractured sternum, ribs and wrist injuries as well as cuts and bruises.
He added: "A second man was arrested at the scene and has since been released under investigation.
"A third person fled the scene on foot.
"The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."
Inquiries are continuing.
