A man was stabbed during a botched daylight robbery.
Police and paramedics were called to the town centre on Saturday after a man, thought to be aged in his 40s, suffered a wound to his hand and side.
It is thought the hand injury was caused by a knife but it is unclear how the other injury was caused.
Officers cordoned off a large area in New Road between Tesco at St George's Shopping Centre.
Police spokesman Vicki Foster confirmed the incident happened at around 4pm and said it is being treated as an attempted robbery.
She added no arrests have been made and inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
Rich Airey, spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service, said they were called to Garrick Street, along the side of Tesco, at around 5.30pm to reports a man had been stabbed.
One ambulance attended alongside police and the victim was taken to Darent Valley Hospital. His condition was not serious.
One eye witness reported seeing the victim bleeding profusely from his hand, with officers focusing on an area near Boots.
