Police officers close down property in Royal Pier Road, Gravesend, during crackdown on anti-social behaviour

Another property in a town has been closed down by police officers as the force cracks down on anti-social behaviour.

Following multiple complaints about crime and incidents of disorder at an address in Royal Pier Road, Gravesend, constables warned the occupants to stop or face the consequences.

They didn’t comply, therefore forcing officers to seek a closure order which was granted at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court yesterday (January 14).

It will last for three months and any unauthorised person entering the property during this time risks a fine and a prison sentence.

The premises have now been secured and a sign has been placed on the door with a warning that it is an offence to enter.

It comes days after another property in Princes Road was shut down last week following complaints from neighbours it had become a hotspot for crime and anti-social behaviour.

Police Sergeant Steve Cole has warned that the force will “not hesitate” to take action against people who are continuing to negatively affect those living around them.

He added: “Once again we have had to take action against unruly occupants of a house in the borough who failed to heed our warnings.

“It is totally unacceptable that residents of one property can have such a detrimental effect on the quality of life of other residents and we are determined to tackle the problem.

“We are currently working with council colleagues and other housing providers to deal with further problematic households.

“I would urge any other residents who are suffering similar issues to contact us so that we can work to resolve any concerns.”

The closure orders are made using legislation under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
