A charity cricket match which saw members of the public take on a Kent Police XI helped raise funds for good causes.
Organised by Kent Equality Cohesion Council, their community XI were victorious after chasing a target of 93 runs.
It came down to the last over but the police side lost in the match which helped raise £260 for Gravesham mayor Cllr Gurdip Bungar’s charity fund.
He was in attendance for the nail-biting match at Gravesham Rugby Club.
Gurvinder Sandher, chief executive of Kent Equality Cohesion Council, said: “I am really pleased that we were able to raise funds for the Mayor of Gravesham’s nominated charities.
“The cricket match was a great way of bringing together diverse communities to play against and encourage dialogue with Kent Police in a competitive but fun way.
“I am very grateful to Gravesham Rugby Club who hosted the match and we look forward to putting together similar activities featuring other sports over the coming year.”
Kent Equality Cohesion Council (KECC) evolved out of the North West Kent Racial Equality Council. It was set up in April 2010. It works across the county in partnership with different organisations to promote community cohesion and to eliminate discrimination.
It has partnership arrangements with Kent County Council, Gravesham council, Dartford council, Gravesham Citizens’ Advice North & West Kent, Kent Fire & Rescue Service and Kent Police.
It provide free advice and support around a range of diversity issues relating to race, faith, disability, sexual orientation and gender.
KECC also provides training and policy development in the voluntary and statutory sector.
