NORTH Kent Police are appealing for information following a spate of robberies in two men’s public toilets in Gravesend town centre.
There have been four separate incidents since April 21, which detectives believe may be connected.
The first incident took place on Monday, April 21 at the public toilets in Clive Road. At around 12.50pm the 46-year-old victim, from the Northfleet area, was grabbed and pulled to the floor by a white male who was 6ft 2in tall and stocky. He had short brown hair and was wearing a jacket, white t-shirt, blue jeans and beige work boots. He demanded his victim hand over any money he had and during a struggle managed to grab hold of a wallet, which was in the trouser pocket of his victim. He took £130 cash from the wallet and then threw it back at the victim before making off.
The second incident happened in the toilets in Parrock Street at around 12.15pm on Saturday, May 3.
The 62-year-old victim was grabbed from behind and knocked to the floor. He had £30 taken from his trouser pocket.
The next two reported incidents took place a week later on Saturday, May 10.
At around 10.40am a 74-year-old man using the toilets in Parrock Street was approached by a man who asked for the time. As the victim looked at his watch, his wallet was grabbed from his shirt pocket. But the robber made off empty-handed. He was white, 5ft 10in tall, stocky and clean shaven. He had wavy short hair and was wearing a cream jumper and blue jeans.
An hour later, at 11.45am, a 55-year-old was approached as he washed his hands in the Clive Road toilets. The robber made a grab for the victim’s wallet from the back pocket of his shorts. When challenged by the victim, he pinned him against the wall and made off with £40 cash. He was white, aged 25 to 35, 6ft tall and had short brown hair. He was wearing jeans, a dark top with a picture on the chest and a dark jacket.
Det Con Paul Clements is investigating the incidents. He said: "It is likely that there is a link and we would urge anyone with information to get in touch. I would also ask people to be extra vigilant when using public toilets in the town to ensure both they and their property stay safe."
