A police officer has been given a written warning after shouting at colleagues trying to do their job while he was on a night out.
Inspector Henry Sandhu, who works at North Kent Police Station, was off duty and out socially when he came across on-duty officers who were looking after a man for being drunk and disorderly.
He spoke to the man officers were trying to deal with and was asked to move away but didn’t. Instead he shouted, and was aggressive and intimidating towards one of the officers.
Insp Sandhu was then said to have ‘used force upon the on-duty officer’. He was asked to leave again but continued to protest.
Insp Sandhu did not accept that his conduct on November 1 amounted to gross misconduct. A hearing agreed, but decided it was misconduct and issued him with a written warning.
Details of proceedings published by Kent Police said: “The panel concluded that the alcohol consumed by the officer affected his judgement and that he did not act with sufficient self-control.
“He demonstrated this in continuing to engage with the male who was clearly agitated by his presence.
“He failed to treat his colleagues with respect and courtesy and abused his authority and will need to appreciate the potential impact of his behaviour on junior colleagues in the future.
“They considered that the officer’s conduct fell below the standard expected of an officer of his rank and had breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour relating to Authority, Respect and Courtesy and Discreditable Conduct.”
