Police search Gravesend house for rare objects

A police operation is under way in an exclusive area of Gravesend.

A convoy of officers in marked and unmarked vehicles arrived at a house in Singlewell Road during an investigation into African and Indian artefacts.

An officer at the scene said: "We are investigating reports. Nothing has been found and the property owner is helping us."

The investigation began after reports that a protected rhino horn and other prohibited items may be in a house in Gravesend.

The occupier of the property, which is close to Mid Kent golf club, is understood to deal in rare items.

A new Bentley with a customised registration was parked in front of the house.

As police officers, specialists and forensic officers searched the house wearing combat gear and latex gloves, another neighbour said: "They suddenly appeared. There were no sirens or lights."

A police spokesman said: "No one has been arrested or charged with any offences."
