Reports of man jumping from top of Thamesgate Shopping Centre car park, Gravesend

A man has been taken to hospital after reportedly jumping from the top of Thamesgate Shopping Centre car park in Gravesend.

The incident took place at around 5am and police closed the car park. The man is being treated in London for serious injuries.

A woman at the scene, who wished to remain anonymous, said someone who worked in the centre had spoken to her about the incident.

She said: "They went to take in a delivery this morning and they saw someone lying there. So it looks like someone has jumped."

Two forensic vans and three police cars were called, with half a lane of traffic cordoned off in Clive Road.

According to rumours on Facebook it appears the injured man was found by a delivery driver.

Donna Waghorne posted on the Gravesend News community page: "Our delivery driver found him and he is pretty shaken up, poor bloke.

"Work doesn't want him driving back, so they are trying to get him picked up or put up in a hotel over night. Our deliveries come from Wales so it would be too far for him to drive."

A police spokeswoman said: "Officers received a report of concerns for the welfare of a man in Clive Road, Gravesend, at 5.03am today.

"Officers and Secamb crews attended the scene and later met with air ambulance crews.

"The man has been taken to hospital and officers remain at the scene.

"Officers are continuing to make enquiries but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."

A South East Cost Ambulance press officer said: "We responded to a call after reports that a man fell from height. Two ambulances, three paramedic cars and an air ambulance attended the scene.

"The man was taken to Kings College Hospital in London with serious injuries and received treatment on the way there."
