Powerhouses in the political campaign to leave Europe are reaching out to town centre shoppers.
Tory MPs Peter Bone and Tom Pursglove, the co-founders of Grassroots Out (GO), will be stopping off in Gravesend on Saturday to join a street stall with the borough’s MP, Adam Holloway (Con), Labour Leave general secretary Brendan Chilton and Henry Bolton (Ukip).
The stall has been running every Saturday for several weeks outside the former Marks and Spencer store in New Road, providing information and advice to help people decide whether to vote to leave Europe or remain in the referendum next month.
Mr Holloway, who expressed his support for quitting the EU at the start of political campaigning, said: “This referendum is a great opportunity for all of us in Gravesham and the UK. I think it is far less certain what will happen if we stay in.
“The Eurozone is in crisis, the EU has completely lost control of its external borders. We have the once in a lifetime chance to take back control – let’s vote for it on Thursday, June 23.”
GO is a cross-party campaign and will be travelling hundreds of miles this weekend to attend several regional events.
Ukip Gravesham has organised the weekend street stall. Representative Tina Brooker said: “We are achieving highly favourable responses and as the weeks progress more people are engaging with us and are very keen to discuss this very important issue.
“It is imperative that both sides of the debate are given an even playing field and people are given clear, factual evidence in order for them to make an informed decision at the ballot box.”
The campaign will be in New Road from 2pm.
