It said: “I wanted to let our community know that we have been made aware that an older, unknown male has been approaching young people in the area after school.

“Please be aware that the police are aware and are working to identify this person.

“As a school, we have taken this extremely seriously as the safety of our pupils is paramount.

“We are working with the police and any families that have been affected.

“We will also be revisiting Stranger Danger with our pupils and reminding our older pupils who walk home to be vigilant.

“I would urge all parents and careers to also revisit with their children how to stay safe, especially those who walk home.”

A spokesperson for the school, in Cimba Wood, confirmed it reported the incident to the relevant authorities once it became aware of it and the police are investigating the issue.

They added: “We take matters like these extremely seriously, as the safety of our pupils is paramount.

“As a precautionary measure, we have written to parents to make them aware, and are taking steps to educate our pupils on staying safe both inside and outside of school, in line with our robust safeguarding policies."

A police spokesperson said: “Kent Police received a report at 4.42pm on Thursday, March 13, that a 10 year old girl was approached earlier that day by a man in St Francis Avenue, Gravesend who asked for help to enter a building.

“The girl refused and was able to leave the scene.”

Inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and anyone with relevant information should contact Kent Police on 01474 366149 quoting 46/42502/25.
