A TWO-year anti-social behaviour order has been slapped on a Northfleet man with a 15-year-history of drunken and violent behaviour.
Thirty-three year old Steven Carley Wright was given the ASBO at Dartford Magistrates Court on Tuesday, December 16.
It bans him from being drunk in a public place and from threatening unlawful violence towards any person in a public place.
Robert De Banzie, from the Crown Prosecution Service, told the court: “Wright is a prolific offender with a history of substance abuse and serious anti-social behaviour stretching over a period of 15 years.
“There has been a consistent pattern of behaviour over this time with assaults, criminal damage and public order offences committed whilst intoxicated, with random violence directed at others.”
The court heard that Wright, of Factory Road, Northfleet, has been arrested 98 times over an 11-year-period – 22 of these were for drunkenness and 14 for public order incidents. In June 2008 alone he was arrested eight times, six of which related to offences of assault, criminal damage and public order.
He has received 11 custodial sentences, three community orders, three probation orders, a supervision order and three conditional discharges in addition to several penalty notices where fines have been imposed and an exclusion from licensed premises.
Adrian Rowhart, who represented Wright in court, argued that there had been a recent reduction in offending by Wright and that an order was not necessary to control his behaviour.
Chief Inspector Philip Painter, who is in charge of neighbourhood policing in North Kent, said: “If people fail to take notice of the advice given by ourselves to keep the wider community safe, then we will not hesitate to take them to court and get measures put in place to curb their anti-social behaviour.”
