Water supplies have been restored to a village after a burst main.

Higham Primary School was among hundreds of properties left without water following a burst main.

Children were sent home as Southern Water engineers attempted to fix the problem.

The water supplier reported the problem just before 6am this morning and said a burst main was causing low pressure and had led to hundreds of homes and other properties being left with no water at all.

In total 372 properties had no supply. Engineers were sent to investigate just after 6am and make the necessary repairs.

Louise Blaze, 32, lives in the village and had to pick her six-year-old son up from school.

She said: "I got a text message from Higham Primary this morning saying that school was open as they were hoping for the water to be back on quite quickly.

"A short while after dropping Vinnie at school, I got another text message to say please collect your children as the no water situation is worse than we originally thought."

An update from Southern Water at 11am said: "We have now repaired the main and are slowly recharging, your water should slowly come back over the next 30 - 60 mins.

"You may notice some discolouration when you first start to run the water; this is completely normal when there’s been a disruption in supply and is only temporary."

Southern Water has apologised to customers.
