When the project is completed in spring 2022, every seat in all 17 of the venue’s auditoriums will feature the recliner seating as standard.
The improvements will allow film fans to experience the big screen in ultimate comfort, and the cinema will still be able open work is under way, as the remodel will happen in stages.
The venue is showing classic Christmas movies in half term including Elf and Home Alone.
As well as the screens themselves, the Gallery bar and lounge located on the upper level will be undergoing a full makeover too.
Mark Barlow, UK general manager for Showcase Cinemas, said: "We're really very excited about the new developments at Showcase Cinema de Lux Bluewater.
"The upgraded seating will mean film lovers can truly enjoy the big screen experience to the fullest with the latest technology and incredible comfort as standard.
"We'll be doing the work in phases so that the cinema can remain open throughout, meaning guests can still enjoy the amazing line up of films released in the rest of 2021 and early 2022.
"The upgrade will enable all of our guests to recline in comfort - and literally put their feet up – whilst enjoying the latest blockbusters. We can’t wait to share the finished result.”
