The first Olympic stamps featuring yesterday's gold medal winners were sold by one of the post offices within seconds of opening today.

Riverview Park post office still has some of the special stamps left but expected it to be less busy now the initial rush has gone.

The Post Office is issuing stamps of every gold medal winner for sale at selected post offices the day after the medal is won.

One of the first was Norman Oakley, secretary of the Insurance and Banking Philatelic Society of Great Britain (pictured left).

He said: "Normally I get my stamps from the Post Office in Edinburgh, but these are on sale here and you have to support your local, don't you."

Riverview will open on Sunday from 10am to 1pm for the next three weekends - in case there is a Saturday winner.

Nearby, Valley Drive post mistress Babeer Channa said they expected their gold medal stamps to be delivered overnight tonight. She said they would not open on a Sunday, however.

The first stamp to be printed was of Helen Glover and Heather Stanning just after they had crossed the winning line in the Women's Pairs.

The second stamp features Bradley Wiggins, the road cycle time trial winner.

The First Class stamps cost 60p each or are available in sheets of six.
