A man trapped under a train was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

On Sunday at 1.26am emergencies services were called to Longfield Railway Station.

A 60-year-old man had been hit by a train and was trapped beneath the carriage.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene along with a crew from the fire service’s urban search and rescue team.

They used heavy lifting equipment to free the man.

Two ambulances and three paramedic cars, including South East Coast Ambulance's specialist heart-treatment vehicle also attended.

The man had injuries to his head, arm, abdomen and leg.

Kent Air Ambulance also attended but the man was taken by road to King's College Hospital, London.

Emergency services left the scene at around 2.30am.

One man, who was on the train which hit the 60-year-old, said: “I was on this train at the time.

"We didn’t see anything as the man was under the front of the train but was relieved to hear he was still alive.”
