A man has been arrested after a police chase on the M25 lead to a car ploughing into a village wall.
An Audi was badly damaged in the crash and officers blocked a road for motorists following the collision.
Emergency services were called to the A227 South Street in Meopham, near Gravesend, at around 2pm.
A Meopham Parish Council spokesman said: “We have just been notified of an incident in Meopham at the Village Green opposite the Windmill.
“Police are in attendance but we understand that the road is partially closed. The first report is that a car has driven into a garden wall. Please take care when out and about.”
One member of staff at nearby The Cricketers Inn said they saw traffic stopping outside the pub and went outside to look where they saw the smashed up car.
They said it was involved in a police chase before colliding with the wall and at least one person was injured.
One owner of a nearby shop, who didn’t want to be named, said there are a lot of emergency vehicles in the area and police officers are dealing with the incident.
A police spokesman said: “Patrols have arrested a suspect following a collision in Meopham.
“The incident happened on Tuesday after officers on patrol on the M25 spotted a suspected stolen car at around 1.30pm.
“The driver was required to stop and failed to do so. Officers pursued the vehicle which later struck a wall in Wrotham Road.
“A man in his 20s was detained in connection with the incident and the other occupants of the vehicle left the scene on foot. An investigation is underway and inquiries are continuing in the area.”
The road has since reopened.
Update: The arrested man has since been bailed until October 23, 2024.
