A long-running family business is set to close after more than 40 years of trading.
Bobby’s Fashion and Schoolwear in Gravesend High Street has kitted out thousands of youngsters ready for their first days at school with shirts, jumpers, trousers, skirts, blazers and more. It also sells children's fashion.
But the familiar store will finally close its doors this weekend.
Owner Davinda Kaur said the rising cost of rent combined with declining profits had forced her to call time on the business, which she had taken charge of following the death of her husband 12 years ago.
“Generations have come here and everyone knew Bobby,” said Mrs Kaur. “People are coming in saying ‘what are we going to do?’ There’s a need for this kind of shop.
“I’ve worked over 30 years in the business, but the children are grown up and don’t want to be in the business.”
Mrs Kaur said she was sad to have to close the shop but that running it on her own had been hard work, and it was the right time to finish.
Stock is now being sold off at discounted prices.
Bobby’s is set to close its doors for the last time on Saturday.
