A primary school has turned to crowdfunding to revamp its library.
Culverstone Green Primary School launched the page on website Rocket Fund in order to make the much-needed improvements.
The school was rebuilt and moved into last year.
The new building on the site in Wrotham Road features a library, however, the school is now looking to make changes to its management system which will allow more pupils to access books that they can take home with them.
They would also like to install a new carpet.
A total of £900 was raised earlier in the year through a scheme which saw pupils create products, pitch them in a Dragon’s Den style and sell them to parents and teachers.
The current library is forest-themed and is adorned with pictures of popular children’s characters such as the Gruffalo, Paddington and Elmer, which are also the names of the some of the classes.
Head of School Sarah Martin said: “The children came up with designs, they thought about how they would want the library re-imagined. The library is managed through a team of pupil librarians who are equipped with iPads, but the system needs improving.
It is hoped the changes to the library will allow more pupils to take books home and have a wider access to reading.
“We lost a lot of stock when the school moved and we have had lots of issues management of the stock.”
“There is such a difference that the reading makes to the children’s learning, we have been working hard to develop that within the school.” Rocket Fund matches some of the funding raised.
It has already matched £250 of the money raised by the school. The total raise so far is £1,252 towards their £2,178 target and they have until mid April to achieve it.
