A man has been seriously injured after he was hit by a lorry on the A2.
Police and firefighters are at the scene of the accident on the A2 between the A227 and the M2 near Gravesend.
The man's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Huge delays built up as the road was closed to allow the air ambulance to land.
The Highways Agency reopened two lanes coast-bound at 4.30pm but long delays remain.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at just after 3.20pm to a report of a collision on the coastbound carriageway of the A2, near Gravesend.
"It was reported a lorry and a pedestrian were involved in a collision.
"The coastbound carriageway was closed for a short while to allow the air ambulance to arrive and take the pedestrian – a man – to a hospital in London for treatment."
Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance confirmed they were called out to a road traffic collision near Gravesend at 15.41pm.
Diversions were put in place to help motorists avoid the area.Traffic should exit at the junction with the A227 and follow the black circle symbols, joining the A227 towards Gravesend.
They can then join the B261 eastbound, Valley Drive southbound towards Sole Street and rejoin the A2 at Marling Cross.
