The daughter of a woman found dead in Tunisia has expressed shock over her death.

Pauline Richardson, 64, who lived in Gravesend for 30 years, was found beaten and strangled in the resort town of Port Elkantaoui where she visited often.

Police there have launched a murder investigation and are trying to trace her Tunisian boyfriend.

Her daughter Beverley Sains said: "She was a lovely person, bubbly, friendly, caring to everyone, just so full of life. We are at a complete loss at to why this should have happened."

"Tunisia was a place where she regularly took holidays. She just loved to travel and wherever she went she made friends. She had a lovely out-going personality. She just wanted to enjoy life to the full and enjoy her family.

"The news of her death has come as a dreadful shock. The first inkling that something was wrong came when we got a call on Monday from one of the ladies she was with to say she was missing.

"To be told that she has been killed is so hard to accept. It has left us all totally numb."

Pauline moved back to Bishop Auckland in County Durham last November to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law Mark and grandchildren Richard, 22 and Natalie, 10.

She lived between there and her house in Spain.
