Shoppers were left shocked and appalled when a woman squatted in the town centre and urinated in the street.

The use of Gravesend as a toilet is the latest insult to public decency blighting this, and many other towns.

Add it to spitting and swearing, chewing gum and dog excrement smeared across pavements; how far are we prepared to let standards slip before we take action?

The incident has prompted the Gravesend Messenger to launch its Keep it Clean campaign, which asks all of you, together with the council and the police, to help restore pride in our historic town and stop the moral decline.
