Three days later, police were notified that cash had been stolen after a restaurant was burgled overnight in Roman Way, Strood.

Lee Hutton, of Montgomery Close, Gravesend, was arrested last Thursday after an investigation by the Kent Crime Squad.

The 37-year-old was charged with two burglaries the following day, and with a count of making off without payment at a petrol station on January 19.

Hutton appeared before Medway Magistrates Court where he was conditionally bailed to a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court on March 31.
