A YOUNG man accused of murdering Kent taxi driver Gian Chand Bajar did not enter a plea to the charge when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court.

Luke Aujila's hearing was adjourned until October 19 at the request of his lawyer Louise Oakley.

The 20-year-old, of Dorchester Road, Gravesend, is alleged to have killed father-of-five Mr Bajar, who was found lying injured in St Benedict’s Avenue, in the town late in the evening of May 23.

Mr Bajar, 71, of Darnley Road, Gravesend, had been run over by his own car which was later found burnt out nearby. He died at Darent Valley Hospital.

Aujila appeared in the dock with his mother Annette, 42, also of Dorchester Road, and brother Thomas, 25, of Gordon Road, Northfleet.

Mrs Aujila, who works at Whitehill Primary School, Gravesend, and Thomas Aujila, a father, were charged with perverting the course of justice between May 22 and 28.

Judge Andrew Patience, QC, remanded Luke Aujila in custody and continued conditional bail for his mother and brother.
