A 21-year-old man admitted killing a Kent taxi driver when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court.
But although Luke Aujila pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Gian Chand Bajar, he will still stand trial on a murder charge.
Mr Bajar was found lying seriously injured in St Benedict’s Avenue, Gravesend, after being run over by his own car on May 23 this year.
The 71-year-old respected community figure, of Darnley Road, Gravesend, later died in Darent Valley Hospital. His car was found burnt out.
Judge Andrew Patience, QC, set a trial date for May 6 next year but said it would be reviewed on January 18 in the hope it could be heard earlier.
Aujila, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody.
His mother Annette, 42, of Dorchester Road, Gravesend, and brother Thomas, 25, of Gordon Road, Northfleet, have been charged with perverting the course of justice on May 22 and 28.
