Three charged after assaults and thefts in Gravesend

Three teenagers appeared in court today following a spate of incidents in which random passers-by were assaulted in Gravesend.

Police received nine reports on Monday between 6.15pm and 8.30pm and a further three incidents were reported on Thursday between 10pm and 11.30pm.

Several of the calls stated a group of youths approached members of the public and assaulted them. No serious injuries have been reported.

On Monday the incidents took place in Perry Street, Wycliffe Row, Wrotham Road, Darnley Street, Brandon Street and Grange Road and on Thursday, the reported incidents occurred in Granville Road, Lennox Road and Pelham Road South.

Today, three people have been charged.

Tyrel Gbasai, 19, of no fixed abode in Gravesend, has been charged with two assaults alleged to have taken place in Gravesend, on April 3, an assault on April 6, and affray on April 3.

Harry Lugg, 18, of Bean Road in Greenhithe, has been charged with two assaults on April 3, an assault on April 6, affray on April 3 and two counts of theft from motor vehicle on April 6.

He has also been charged with racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm or distress on April 3, possessing cannabis on April 3, and interfering with a vehicle on April 6.

A 16-year-old boy from Gravesend has been charged with an assault on April 3, two assaults on April 6, theft from a motor vehicle on April 6, receiving stolen goods, affray on April 3, and interfering with a vehicle on April 6.

The 16-year-old was released on bail while Gbasai and Lugg were remanded in custody. All three will appear at Greenwich Crown Court on May 5.
