Developers want to convert an old town centre Blockbusters Video store in into a laser-tag and children’s soft-play centre, it has emerged.
The building in West Street, Gravesend, has remained empty since December 2013 after the rental chain entered administration, which closed more than 90 shops across the UK.
Applicants PJG Developments have submitted a change of use application to replace it with a “Play Island”, incorporating a children’s nursery, soft-play centre, laser tag and licensed cafe.
The laser-tag would open for older children and adults in the evenings.
They claim the proposal would create 12 full and part-time jobs while also provide affordable family entertainment in the town centre.
A document, submitted by the applicants, reads: “The “play-café-bar” concept has proved successful elsewhere in maximising the use of buildings throughout the day and helping re-generate town centres.
“Ultimately, the venue aims to become a tourist attraction - bringing visitors into the town whilst remaining affordable for local families.”
A consultation is due to end on Tuesday before a final decision by Gravesham council’s planning committee next month.
