Two friends this week crossed into India from Pakistan – to end an epic 17-country, 14-day journey by Land Rover which included spending the night as guests in a police cell.
Jagjit Singh, from Gravesend, and Rapinder Cheema, from Dartford, have raised more than £20,000 for the British Heart Foundation.
They reached the Golden Temple of Amritsar, India, on Sunday morning, greeted by Jagjit’s wife, children and mother, who flew out from Gravesend last Friday.
His sister Taran Chahal, speaking at the family business Performance Cars (Kent), Singlewell Road, Gravesend, said: “The journey has been mentally and emotionally quite straining.”
Their journey was made in memory of Jagjit’s father Joga Singh Grewal, who died from a heart attack in 2012.
They have been writing an online blog, which included a description of their stay at the Pakistan border police station.
The journey was made with the support of several sponsors including Alpha Bridging Solutions and Sian Formwork, both in Gravesend, and Dartford-based Dakar 4x4.
