Three people were arrested by officers patrolling Gravesend town centre at the weekend.

A 31-year-old man, from Gravesend, was detained on Saturday following an altercation with a security guard working in New Road.

It took place at around 3.45am and patrols were quickly on hand to arrest the suspect.

Andrew Loft, of The Fairway in Gravesend, was later charged with being drunk and disorderly and has been bailed to attended Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 20.

No injuries were reported.

A 32-year-old man was also detained at the same time following a reported assault in New Road.

The offender, who is from Gravesend, went on to admit the offence in custody and, following consultation with the victim, was issued with a caution.

Meanwhile, at 11.20pm on Saturday, a 21-year-old man was arrested for being drunk and disorderly following a confrontation with security staff working in Queen Street.

He was issued with a £90 penalty notice disposal the following day.

Inspector Neil Loudon, from the Gravesham Community Safety Unit, said: "Gravesend town centre has a vibrant night-time economy that is widely enjoyed by residents and visitors to the town.

"Nearly everyone is able to enjoy themselves in a sensible way that does not impact upon other people's enjoyment.

"The small minority that do seek to cause trouble can, however, have a significant and adverse impact on everyone else's experience and there is simply no place for disorder in the town.

"Those that do visit the town and commit criminal offences can expect to be arrested and dealt with appropriately."
