Colin Turkington and Fabrizio Giovanardi will be battling it out in the British Touring Car Championship
A trio of drivers will be going head-to-head for overall honours when the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit host the title-deciding season finale of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship this weekend (October 3/4).
The Team RAC BMW of Colin Turkington currently leads the BTCC standings, but VX Racing’s Fabrizio Giovanardi and the Racing Silverline Chevrolet of Jason Plato are also both in contention for the 2009 trophy following last weekend’s penultimate round at Rockingham.
Although Turkington has a slender 13 point advantage, the Ulsterman is particularly wary of second place Giovanardi: "Fabrizio and I have had some very good races between ourselves on track and I'm glad it's him I'm fighting against because it's known around the world what a high calibre driver he is. You'd be mad to rule out Jason as well."
Double BTCC champion Giovanardi, who is vying for his third consecutive title, is also facing pressure from the in-form Plato – who lies 14 points adrift of the Italian in third place. A potential 48 points are on offer at the Kent season finale.
Brands Hatch will host a trio of British Touring Car races, along with support championships including Ginetta Juniors, Formula Renault UK and the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
There will also be a collection of iconic British Touring Cars at the circuit, including models driven by legends Jack Sears and Gerry Marshall, plus family entertainment including a funfair, mini quad bikes, a bird of prey display and mini JCBs from Diggerland.
Tickets for the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on 3/4 October are available from £23 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or visit www.brandshatch.co.uk
