Two children have been injured after getting stuck in lift doors at Bluewater.

Bosses at the retail and leisure complex are investigating additional safety measures after the scares last week.

In the first, on Friday, June 25, staff were alerted when a toddler's mother called for help near the Water Circus dining and cinema area.

The boy is understood to have been left with bruising to his arm when the lift doors clamped shut but did not spring open again.

Another youngster was hurt in a similar incident on Monday.

A spokesman said that on both occasions Bluewater’s guest safety hosts were on the scene within minutes.

Each lift was closed down immediately for investigation, but mechanical faults have been ruled out.

"As safety always remains our top priority we are now exploring additional measures over and above the statutory requirements to hopefully prevent similar accidents happening," the spokesman added.

"These were unfortunate accidents and we wish both children involved a speedy recovery."

Four lift incidents have been reported at Bluewater in the last year, none of which involved faulty equipment, the shopping centre said.
