A new film club will give audiences the chance to enjoy classic movies and foreign masterpieces on the big screen.
The Paul Greengrass Cinema at The Woodville already shows a wide variety of the latest releases but will now be adding even more to its cultural calendar.
The Gravesend Film Club will offer people the opportunity to enjoy an eclectic range of cinema not always available at multiplexes, including foreign, independent and older films.
Screenings will be at 8pm on the first Tuesday of each month. The club will be kicking off with American Beauty, starring Kevin Spacey in an Oscar-winning performance, on Tuesday, April 7.
Among the other films confirmed will be City of God, LA Confidential and Dead Man’s Shoes.
People will also be able to enjoy a drink at the theatre’s licensed Brasserie before and after.
Woodville manager Neil Chandler said the film club was another example of the theatre trying to cater for all members of the community.
He said:“Our aim is always to try to offer something that appeals to people’s tastes. We are based in a diverse and quite large community and it’s our job to engage with people.
“Every taxpayer should visit The Woodville in the course of this year because they contribute to it.”
The film club was started when film fan and Gravesend Messenger reporter Alex Matthews met up with Mr Chandler for an interview.
The theatre manager said he encouraged members of the public to come up with ideas.
“We’ve always wanted to do a film club, but it was just getting someone to run it and this a great example of someone from the community coming to us with an idea and us acting on it.
“The film club gives the chance for people to enjoy films that were originally screened a long time ago.
“The more people that come to the cinema, the more people can see what have going on.”
Entry to Gravesend Film Club is £4. For more log on to www.woodville.co.uk/paulgreengrasscinema.php
