A driver was killed in a crash with a Royal Mail lorry on the A2.
Traffic was brought to a standstill after a black BMW collided with the lorry at around 9.50am, on the westbound carriageway near Cobham services.
Motorists had to swerve debris and watched in horror as emergency crews worked at the scene.
Police have since confirmed a driver died at the scene.
Further details are not being released until next of kin have been contacted.
The eastbound carriageway was subsequently reopened at 12.24pm and the westbound carriageway at 9pm following an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Inquiries into the incident are being carried out by officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, who would like to hear from witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage that may assist their enquiries.

Congestion stretched back nearly 10 miles to the M2 westbound between junctions two and three, near Rochester Airport.
A diversion was put in place with drivers advised to follow the solid square symbol, via the A289 north, the A226 west and A227 south.
