It is understood the vehicle was brought onto the site at around 7pm on Thursday (December 19).

A spokesperson for Cobham Parish Council said it was aware of the “destruction and devastation caused to trees and hedgerows” by a vehicle transporting the caravan to the site.

The incident was reported to Gravesham council’s enforcement team who have attended the site to see the extent of the damage.

The local authority has since confirmed its officers are investigating as the owners have breached a High Court injunction which prevents anyone from using the land for the siting of caravans or mobile homes.

In a statement published online, a spokesperson added: “A report has been logged with Kent Police referencing the damage made to the road, verges and surrounding trees along White Post Lane.

“Kent County Council (KCC) officers have also been informed and are attending the site to assess the situation.

“The council is reviewing with legal colleagues whether further action can be taken at this time, alongside the reports made to Kent Police.”

Kent Police is investigating a report of criminal damage to several trees and anyone with information is urged to call the appeal line on 01474 366149, quoting reference 46/215878/24.

Whitepost Farm has been subject to a long planning history with previous applications to station a caravan for security purposes and to change the use of the land into a Gypsy and Traveller site being refused.

Subsequent appeals have since been dismissed by the local authority.

However, there is a case with the Planning Inspectorate linked to an enforcement notice issued by the council after the land was changed from equestrian to unauthorised residential use with the stationing of mobile homes.

An informal hearing was due to be held in September.
