THE families of two motorcyclists who died in separate accidents on roads in Kent have paid tribute to them.

One of the victims, Paul Philpot, 46, died on the A227 Wrotham Road at Meopham, near Gravesend, at the weekend. He came from Hurst Road in Erith.

Richard Zimmerling, 23, died following a collision between his motor bike and a white Transit van on Thursday, November 1, at Stick Hill, between Edenbridge and Cowden. He came from Warburton Road, Twickenham.

The tragedy at Meopham happened at about 1.50pm on Sunday when two motorcyclists were involved in a collision with a grey Audi A3. The incident occurred near the George Inn public house.

Mr Philpot was pronounced dead at the scene. The second motorcyclist and the driver of the Audi were treated for minor injuries and shock.

The road was closed for about five hours while forensics officers and police officers from Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit gathered evidence.

Karen Philpot, the widow of Mr Philpot, said: “Paul was a wonderful husband and father, with such a passion for life.

"He was much-loved by all who knew him and he will leave a big hole in the lives of his family and friends who all miss him dearly.”

Anyone witnessed the collision or has any other information, is asked to contact Sgt Stephen Freeman, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, on 01622 798538.

Richard Zimmerling has been described by his parents, Carol and Bob, as a loving son who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In a statement issued through Kent Police, the couple said: "Richard's love of life was his friends, computers, catering, music and his bike. His big heart touched all of his friends wherever they are in the world.

"Buddhism teaches us that the meaning of the word love is friendship. Richard gave his love to many openly and in return was loved.

"As Richard grew up his circle of friends grew too, loved and remembered wherever he went.

"Special thanks go to those who so desperately tried to save Richard, the paramedics of the Kent Air Ambulance Service and the doctors and staff at the hospital in Redhill.

Mr Zimmerling's funeral service will take place at South West Middlesex Crematorium (Hanworth) on Friday, November 16, at 2.45pm.

The family say black colour code dress will not be necessary and that "colour would be lovely".
