Two people have been arrested on suspicion of fraud following an attempt to obtain a bank card from a man in Greenhithe.
On Monday, May 11, a man received a call from someone claiming to be from his bank, informing him money had been stolen and that he should leave his bank card and pin in an envelope ready for collection from his address.
The victim, who is in his 20s, agreed but thought the incident was suspicious and reported it to the police.
Officers attended the address where they found two men who, it is alleged, had just arrived to collect the card.
The men, aged 20 and 23 and from the West Midlands, were arrested and have since been released on bail until Tuesday June 2.
Inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.
DS Marc Cananur said: "I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents that this kind of call is not genuine and luckily this victim thought something was suspicious and reported it straight away.
"It is important to note, a bank or building society will never ask a member of the public for any of their bank details, or money, over the phone and will never send a taxi or courier to an account holder’s home to assist in transferring cash."
Police also issued the following advice:
If you are not confident a person claiming to work for your bank or building society is genuine, ask for their details and then end the call.
Look up the bank's details and call it on a number you know to be genuine, as opposed to the number the caller may have provided.
