POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a street fight which resulted in two people being taken to hospital and five arrested.
The police were called to the Prince of Wales public house in Milton Road, Gravesend, at about 11.45pm on Friday.
Pete Dhesi, brother of the pub's landlord, said: "We closed the pub at 11pm and it was totally empty by 11.20pm. The only people left were the staff. "At about half past, out of nowhere, a crowd of about 10 people rushed in. They had seen the lights on and thought we could help them.
"They said they were being chased by a gang with knives. The group then went back outside and got set upon by another group coming up the road.
"A fight then went on outside the pub and we called the police and an ambulance. We stayed out of the way as they had come from town and we didn't want everyone to think it had come from the pub, when it hadn't."
He added: "It seems that the fighting had started in town then moved to the prom and then up to Denton."
Two men were found injured at the scene and taken to Darent Valley Hospital. One was later transferred to Medway Maritime Hospital but both were released over the weekend.
The five men arrested, all in their late teens, were later released on bail pending further enquiries.
