Having been airlifted to a London hospital, he was said to be in a critical condition as Kent Police launched a witness appeal the following day.

While his condition is now stable, police say he remains in hospital due to the type of injury sustained.

On Thursday, June 9, officers arrested two men from Gravesend, aged 20 and 37, and a 36-year-old man from Rochester, on suspicion of assault. All three are on bail until Thursday, September 8, pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Pete Smith, of North Kent CID said: "Due to this violent incident the victim has been left with life-changing injuries which are not only physical, but will impact him in every area of his life.

"This was an unprovoked assault and we are certain there are people out there who witnessed the incident and know what happened and who have not yet spoken to police.

"I would urge you to please get in touch and provide us with this information, even the smallest piece of information can have a huge impact.

"We are determined to solve this incident and ensure those offenders are held to account and that we get justice for the victim."
