A 43-year-old man who was struck by a car which failed to stop has died in hospital.

Neil Martin, from Cecil Road, Gravesend, suffered serious head injuries in the incident on the evening of May 31 and lost his fight for life on Thursday.

Mr Martin was crossing Old Road West, Gravesend, when a silver-coloured Ford Escort, which was parked in the road, reversed back into him.

The driver of the vehicle continued to drag him along until a witness starting banging on his window to make him aware of the collision.

At this point the driver failed to stop and instead drove off at speed in the direction of Pelham Road and Perry Street.

A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
