Charity campaigners are hoping their music video to a hit by boy band One Direction will go viral.

Supporters of The Stacey Mowle Appeal mimed to What Makes You Beautiful to raise awareness of their campaign.

The group is Stacey’s favourite and the video was made to try to cheer her up after a three-week spell in hospital.

But supporters are hoping it will also spread word across the social media of their fundraising efforts.

Stacey Mowle, seven, of Trafalgar Road, Gravesend, suffers from a rare cancer, called neuroblastoma, and her family wants to send her to America for specialist treatment. They need to raise £500,000.

In the video, titled Charityoke – That’s what makes you beautiful, Stacey supporters sing and dance in their purple Stacey Mowle T-shirts. It was filmed in rooms around The Woodville, in Woodville Place, Gravesend.

One of the organisers, Jacquii Alexander-Smith, explained it was important the video had a funny side.

She said:“We looked at all the other charities and we saw that the things that get noticed are silly and fun.

“When people make idiots out of themselves those videos are remembered.

"We just wanted to say ‘we need your help’ but at the same time we wanted people looking at the video and thinking ‘look how funny that is’.

The video was made free by Terry Hobday, who runs TDH Media in Bexley.

Jacquii said: “Stacey absolutely loved it. They [the family] all had tears rolling down their faces. Stacey’s brother Sam was rolling around the floor laughing.

“We’re hoping that One Direction see it now and want to produce a video for Stacey as well.”

Darts players raised nearly £10,000 in just over 10 weeks for the Stacey Mowle Appeal. Members of the Medway Ladies’ Dart League collected money through fancy dress matches, quiz nights and a barn dance.

A total of £9,769 was collected in what the players called their Summer of Fun, and Kent Reliance building society rounded the amount up to £10,000 after hearing about their efforts.
