ONE of the most rewarding things someone can do is volunteer their time for free.
Volunteers’ Week, from Sunday, June 1 to Saturday, June 7 is a chance to celebrate this work.
The Citizens Advice Bureau in Windmill Street is run by volunteers, and manager Gill Porter describes it as an important service.
She said: “We are an essential service, and the amount of time volunteers give is incredible.”
Gravesend lifeboat station has more than 30 volunteers, who all play a part in patrolling a 22-mile stretch of the River Thames.
And charity shops including The Lions Hospice, Oxfam, British Heart Foundation and many more are based in Gravesend and run by an army of volunteers.
If you would like to offer your time to these organisations or any other call Gravesend Volunteer Centre on 01474 322729 or visit www.volunteercentregravesham.org
