Police are searching for a key witness who may have seen a taxi driver miss out on his fare after a man was ill in his cab.

The incident took place at around 12.30am on Sunday, June 19 when a 25-year-old taxi driver picked up a man and a woman from West Street, Gravesend.

The couple were looking to go to Valley Drive but after noticing the man looked unwell, the taxi driver stopped at a junction close to Harmer Street to clean his cab.

The 25-year-old began to receive verbal abuse from the man and when he asked for payment for part of the fare they walked off without doing so.

Police believe a man witnessed the abuse and would like to speak to him in connection with the incident.

The man is white, aged 20 to 25 and 5ft 7in tall. He had short, dark brown hair and wore black trousers and a white shirt.

Detective Constable Karen Mulroy, who is investigating the incident, said: "When the taxi stopped, there was a build up of traffic behind it so it is possible others witnessed what happened."

If you can help, contact DC Mulroy at North Kent Police Station on 01474 366516 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
