A young woman has escaped jail after pleading guilty to her part in a fatal hit and run crash on Christmas Eve.
Sophie Jane Clarke, 20, was not driving the car that hit and killed Liam Rogerson, 28, in Crossways Boulevard, Greenhithe, but was in the vehicle and was arrested along with the driver.
A court heard she swapped seats with driver Jamie Birchell-Reeves at the Hilton hotel and drove about 10 Miles.
She was charged with dangerous driving because the car was not fit to be driven following the collision, magistrates were told.
Clarke, of of Medway Road, Crayford, was charged with dangerous driving between the scene of the accident and Medway Road, and allowing Burchell-Reeves to use the vehicle without insurance and a licence.
She has previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced today at Medway Magistrates' Court.
Clarke was given an eight-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, and banned from driving for a year.
After leaving the scene of the crash, Clarke dropped a female friend home then drove to her own home and did not call police to tell them about the crash.
The pair were apparently on their way to the police station when officers tracked them down and they were subsequently arrested.
Harrowing witness statements were read out in court from Liam's dad William Rogerson and mum Sandra about the impact of losing their eldest son.
Clarke was also given a three-month curfew, ordered to take part in a 10-day rehabilitation programme and fined £300 for allowing Burchell-Reeves to use the vehicle.
She must also pay £85 costs.
Driver Burchell-Reeves, 22, of Wakefield Road, Greenhithe, pleaded guilty on a previous occasion to failing to stop after a road accident, failing to report the accident, causing death by dangerous driving and being uninsured and unlicensed at the time of the accident.
He will be sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court at a later date.
