A GOLFER was shot as she played a lunchtime round at an exclusive club in north Kent.

The woman was at the 14th hole of the Mid Kent Golf Club at Gravesend with two other players when she was hit in the leg by an air rifle.

It is believed that two men were shooting at birds from the back garden of a house at around 12.30pm last Thursday. Armed police surrounded the area and a police helicopter hovered for more than an hour overhead.

The woman was taken to Darent Valley Hospital at Dartford but discharged about three hours later. She had no serious injuries.

Kent Police said two men had been arrested in connection with the incident. Both have since been released on bail.
