Daryl McMahon insists the lights have not gone out on Ebbsfleet’s bright start to the season despite the farce of Tuesday’s abandonment at Stonebridge Road.

Fleet led Weston-super-Mare 2-0 at half-time when the floodlights went out, prompting referee Josh Smith to call the game off.

A fourth straight win would have kept McMahon’s side top of Vanarama National League South but they’ve been leapfrogged by new leaders Bath and have now played a game less than their rivals.

However, their manager insists the momentum they’ve been building won’t be halted by the events of midweek.

McMahon said: "We still played. It won’t count but we’ve still gone out and put the performance in so there shouldn’t be any negative.

"The only negative was (not getting) the points but we get to play Weston again and hopefully we can get the points then. The performance was excellent and we can build on that.

"It’s August. I’m sure lots of teams will have games called off around Christmas and we won’t because we’ve got a good pitch. I’m sure it will even itself out over the season.

"I was delighted with the 45 minutes. We’ve started the season pretty well, we’ve had a good pre-season and I’m gutted those minutes don’t count. But the players can be proud of what they did."
