Ebbsfleet United boss Steve Brown delighted with the performance his players put on against Dorchester Town

Ebbsfleet boss Steve Brown called for a big performance from his players against Dorchester on Saturday - and he got one.

Brown made six changes to his starting XI, with the Fleet already safe in the play-offs before kick-off thanks to their 2-1 win at Concord on Thursday.

But the home side still had far too much quality for the relegated Magpies, with Daryl McMahon (2), Michael Thalassitis and Alex Osborn scoring in a 4-0 win.

Brown said: "We were afforded the luxury of making changes today because of the result on Thursday night.

"I asked the players to put on a performance. It was free entry, so we had a slightly bigger crowd than normal and I asked the guys that had not been playing recently to show the crowd and myself that it wasn’t an end-of-season, nothing-on-the-game performance and they certainly did that.

"We took liberties at times, with the way our shape was, but we’ve won 4-0 and I don’t think anyone could argue that we created some very good opportunities, to win by a bigger scoreline."

Only some poor finishing kept the score down at Stonebridge Road.

Brown said: "It became a little bit of a shooting practice for us at times. Dorchester have had a very tough season and it’s not an easy place to come; our home record’s very good, and they would have expected to have been on the back foot for some part of the game.

"If we’d taken every opportunity today, we could have won by a very big scoreline. But the job was to keep a clean sheet and to make it seven home wins on the bounce. We’ve conceded one goal (at home) since January here at Stonebridge Road.

"In that respect, it was a very thorough job by the players. They got the result, they got four goals, they got the clean sheet and we look forward to Wednesday in the play-offs."
