Victory at Tonbridge on Tuesday night had Ebbsfleet manager Steve Brown purring about his side's fantastic recent run in Skrill South.

The 2-0 win at Longmead meant the Fleet have gone eight games unbeaten since losing away to Eastleigh on January 25.

They've won six of those games, keeping clean sheets in five.

Brown said: "We’ve bounced back incredibly well from the loss at Eastleigh. The response from the players from that loss has been phenomenal and the return, in terms of points, has been phenomenal.

"I’ve got nothing but praise for these guys. You saw the team unity (on Tuesday), you saw how hard they grafted to get that result. When it’s like that, you can’t really ask for a lot more.

"Five clean sheets is a big thing in six games. Apart from a couple of long shots (from Tonbridge) on Tuesday, I can’t recall anything, and that’s pleasing.

"We’re in good spirits, team morale is high and there’s no reason not to be. When you’re not conceding goals and you’re winning games, how much better can it get?"

Alex Osborn

Alex Osborn opened the scoring two minutes before half-time at Longmead but the goal didn't change Brown's team talk.

He said: "I thought we were relatively comfortable. I don’t recall Preston (Edwards) having a great deal to do. When you’re comfortable, whether you’re 1-0 up or 0-0, you’re trying to batton down anything that hasn’t gone so well in the first 45 minutes. Your focus is on what hasn’t gone so well and there wasn’t a great deal to adjust.

"Our pressing was good, our work-rate was phenomenal and all the goal does is change Tonbridge’s perspective, not ours. They had to try to do something different to unlock us and we were ultra-professional in the second half. We just didn’t let them in at all."

Anthony Cook's eye-catching wing play brought the game to life in a slow-paced first half. He hit the crossbar, set up a great chance for Billy Bricknell and it was Cook's shot which Angels keeper Lewis Carey pushed out to Osborn for the first goal.

Brown said: "They went 3-5-2 so we knew we were going to have the advantage in wide areas. When you’ve got someone as dangerous as Cooky, you’ve got to find a way to get control of the ball and get it to him. When we did, you saw what he can do.

"I was surprised that he was allowed that freedom, but you’ve still got to produce and you’ve still got to have those moments of magic, which he did for that first goal.

"From the start of the season, taking Anthony Cook on, for what we get out of him now, it’s been a pleasure working with him.

"I’ve said before that he’s a livewire, but I like livewires.

"What he produces is assists and goals and for a wide player, that’s invaluable. If you look up and down our league, I don’t think anybody’s scored as many as Cooky from the left wing and I don’t think anyone’s assisted as much as Anthony Cook.

"He’s certainly a man that has to be watched."
