Cup win will increase Daish's spending power

Ebbsfleet chairman John Moules is confident of an upset at Crewe on Saturday

Ebbsfleet chairman John Moules is hoping the financial benefits of an FA Cup run could help manager Liam Daish with any January transfer plans.

The Fleet received £12,500 for their fourth qualifying round win over Woking and could bank a further £20,000 if they win at League 1 side Crewe in the first round on Saturday.

Mr Moules said: "It's something we'll sit down and talk about. Liam looks after the playing side of things and he has managed the budget well this season. It depends on where we are sitting in January as to whether we need to bring in new players for whatever reason. Those decisions would be made by David Davis (chief executive), Liam, myself and, of course, the MyFootballClub members.

"I think it is fair to say the FA have started putting money back into the game through the FA Cup. Every club like ours looks forward to a cup run because of the financial rewards it brings."

Ebbsfleet have suffered five consecutive league defeats and are now 17th in the Blue Square Premier, but despite the club's poor run of form Mr Moules is confident of an upset against the League 1 strugglers.

He added: "At the moment Crewe's league form suggests they are having a rough time. The Cup is the Cup and players raise their game."
